Moshe Feldenkrais (1904 - 1984) was a Ukrainian-Israeli physicist, martial arts expert, and the founder of the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education to improve functioning by increasing self-awareness through movement.
A chronic knee injury prompted him to apply his knowledge of physics, body mechanics, neurology, learning theory and psychology to a new understanding of human function and development. His investigations resulted in the formulation of the Feldenkrais Method®. Dr. Feldenkrais wrote five books about the method.
Anat Baniel assisted and collaborated with Dr. Feldenkrais, in his work with special needs children before going on to develop her own Anat Baniel Method NeuroMovement®.
Dr. Feldenkrais trained approximately 300 Feldenkrais practitioners. Today, there are over 10,000 Feldenkrais practitioners worldwide, including many who work with special needs children.
